Agent for Planning and Adjusting Travel Itineraries During a Trip

This is a review of planning a trip and creating a mobile travel page for a 14-day stay in Japan using Claude Code, including adjusting the itinerary during the trip.

How it works

  1. Collected itinerary, reservations, and research notes in Obsidian. Claude asked one question at a time with suggestions, and the user chose among them to build the plan. For each city, Claude prompted a full review of the daily schedule.
  2. Created an offline travel page containing itinerary cards, reservation QR codes, train information, and taxi cards with hotel addresses in Japanese, then uploaded it to Vercel.
  3. Kept a Claude Code session running at home and connected to it remotely. During the trip, used a mobile phone to adjust the itinerary, move calendar events, and set reminders.

Results

When the user said they could only take the 10:15 train, the daily schedule, app, and calendar were updated to the new time within a few minutes. No other figures were disclosed.

Notes

There was a failure when a shop added on the spot turned out to be closed. After that, the user checked the official website for business hours before adding any place to the itinerary.

Create a personal travel assistant that plans a trip and adjusts the itinerary when changes happen during travel.

Input: Destinations [list of cities], Period [departure date~return date], Number of travelers [number], Reservation details [file], Interests and budget [criteria]. If any information is missing, ask for it one at a time, providing options and reasons for recommendations.

After organizing itinerary, reservations, and research in a single note, implement a travel page accessible on a mobile phone. Include the order of movements by date, reservation QR codes, train boarding information, and local language accommodation addresses. Make sure saved itineraries can be read offline. Check business hours of places to visit on their official websites, and distinguish items that could not be verified.

If you receive a change like “Missed the train, now departing at [new departure time],” recalculate the remaining itinerary while preserving fixed reservations. For calendar and reminder integration, first check which connections are currently available, and do not mark unconnected services as completed.

Deliverables: Executable travel page, original itinerary, and instructions for use. Test each of the following: mobile display, offline viewing, and a scenario where the itinerary changes due to a late departure. Report changed items and any unverified information.
