Check Approval Requests from Multiple AIs in One Place

The author created an app that lets you check and respond to approval requests from multiple AIs in the menu bar at the top of your Mac screen.

How it works

  1. Install Muster on your Mac, then select the AIs you want to connect in Muster’s settings under ‘Answer prompts from Muster’.
  2. If you connect Codex, you need to enable the Muster connection feature in Codex’s ‘Hooks’ settings and manually verify whether to trust it.
  3. When an AI requests permission to perform a task, check the notification at the top of your screen. You can expand the request reason with Option+Down Arrow and respond with Option+Enter.
  4. Use the ‘Copy check prompt’ in the settings to copy a test request and paste it into the AI chat window. This process checks that the notification arrives, your response is delivered, and the same task resumes.
  5. You can respond to approval requests from Claude Code and Codex directly in Muster. For Cursor, you’ll be taken to the Cursor window with the question to respond there.

Results

The project introduction includes a real app demonstration where approval requests from two AIs are checked and answered in turn. It shows expanding the request reason and responding with keyboard shortcuts.

Notes

Muster is a helper app for managing AI tasks. It requires macOS 14 or later, and the response feature is only available after completing the connection setup. Practice notifications on the guide screen do not confirm an actual connection.

Help me set up Muster so I can check approval requests from multiple coding AIs in one place on my Mac.

Input: macOS version [version], AIs in use [Claude Code/Codex/Cursor], installation status [status]. First, read the current installation requirements and connection instructions at https://github.com/josefchen/muster and summarize which features are available in my environment.

Install Muster and select only the AIs you want to connect. While preserving existing settings, check the necessary connection items, and for steps like trusting Codex’s hooks, guide me to verify them on screen myself. Do not set the app to trust approvals automatically.

After using the Copy check prompt in settings to trigger an actual approval request, confirm the arrival of the notification, the delivery of your response, and the resumption of the same task in order. Reflect the difference that Cursor requires you to move to its window to respond. Do not judge practice notifications as a successful connection.

Deliverables: List of connected AIs, changes to settings, confirmation results, and how to disconnect. If test requests do not appear due to auto-approval, also check the default approval behavior after quitting the app and any shortcut conflicts.
