Price Watch That Only Notifies When Airfares Drop Compared to the Previous Day

This is a workflow for n8n that searches several routes every morning and sends notifications only for routes where the lowest fare has dropped compared to the previous day.

How it works

  1. Every morning, for each route, search several dates about a month ahead and keep the cheapest date. The search uses the community node n8n-nodes-flightpowers and a RapidAPI key.
  2. Only send routes with lower fares than the previous day to the notification node. The public version uses an empty node, but you can replace it with something like Telegram.
  3. The workflow JSON and README are published on a gist.

Results

On the first run, the Berlin-Barcelona direct flight was $92 on Wednesday and $54 on the following Thursday. Running it daily results in about 270 searches per month, which exceeds the 10 searches per month limit of the free plan.

Notes

The search node is managed directly by the author. It currently only supports one-way trips, and routes must be entered directly in the code node. During manual execution, the previous day's price is not saved, so the price drop branch could not be tested immediately.

Example prompt · n8n

Create an n8n workflow that only notifies about flight routes whose lowest price has dropped compared to the previous day.

Input: Departure and arrival airports [route list], dates to search [range], currency [currency], execution time and time zone [settings], notification channel [channel]. First, check the current n8n version and the supported inputs of the n8n-nodes-flightpowers node. Store the RapidAPI key in n8n credentials.

Check one-way fares by date, keep the lowest price and its date for each route, and compare with the same route and currency from the previous successful run. Only send a notification if the price has dropped, including the previous price, current price, difference, and travel date. On the first run, only save the reference value and do not treat search failures as price drops.

Specify how to store the previous day's value, and prepare a way to insert sample previous values so that the comparison branch can be tested even in manual tests. Calculate the number of searches and make sure you can check before exceeding the set service limit.

Deliverables: Workflow JSON that can be imported, list of required connections, setup instructions. Leave records of tests for price drop, same price, price increase, first run, and search failure.
