An agent that builds a forum for multilingual conversations in one thread

The author built a multilingual discussion site with Claude Code over 10 days and 1,181 commits, allowing everyone to write and read in their own language.

How it works

  1. The author used Claude Code to build Agorai, a discussion site where someone can reply in Japanese to a Spanish post while another person reads the same thread in English. It uses the Claude API for translation, moderation, and replies.
  2. The site runs on Cloudflare Pages, Functions, and D1. Almost all work took place in Claude Code sessions, with a separate git worktree for each task.
  3. Claude wrote a test that fails if any interface string is missing in any of the 15 supported languages. It caught 54 Japanese strings that had fallen behind.

Results

The author reported making 1,181 commits over 10 days.

Notes

AI replies running in the background after the response was sent were disappearing without errors at an approximately 30-second limit. The author said a job that retries stalled replies every minute fixed this. The post does not give a user count.

Example prompt · Claude Code

Build a small discussion site where people write in their own language and others can read and reply to the same thread in theirs.

Inputs: supported languages [e.g., Korean, English, Japanese], hosting platform [e.g., Cloudflare Pages], AI translation model and key storage method [environment variables], and moderation rules [prohibited content]. First check the host's function execution time limit in seconds and whether background work continues to completion after a response is sent.

Implementation: 1) Store posts and comments in their original language, and store translations into each reader's language separately. 2) If translation fails or times out, keep it pending instead of letting it disappear silently, and schedule retries every few minutes. 3) Separate interface strings into language files and add a test that fails if any language is missing a string. 4) Hold content that matches the prohibited-content rules for review and obtain administrator confirmation before deletion. 5) Use a separate branch for each task and require tests to pass before merging.

Deliverables: the deployed URL, an explanation of translation pending and retry behavior, and interface-string test results. First publish one post and one reply in two languages, check that each appears in the reader's language, and deliberately cause a translation failure to verify retries.
