An Agent That Sets Up a Shared Obsidian Note Vault for Bots

Instead of Notion, Grok Bot installed Obsidian and created a vault where multiple bots hand off work through folders, logs, and a shared inbox.

How it works

  1. The creator was concerned that notes lived on someone else's server and bots could read them only through an API, so they asked Grok Bot to install Obsidian instead of Notion.
  2. Grok Bot created one vault shared by all bots, giving each bot its own folder, status page, and append-only log file so they would not overwrite one another.
  3. Bots hand off tasks through a shared inbox, leave one note per decision, and follow usage rules defined in a single rules file.

Results

The creator said the bots read and write the files directly. They did not disclose specific metrics.

Notes

The post does not state how long the setup was used or how many bots participated.

Example prompt · Grok Bot

Create an Obsidian note vault shared by my multiple bots.

Inputs: vault location [folder on my computer or synchronized folder], participating bots [names and responsibilities], and existing notes [whether to migrate them]. First, verify that Obsidian is installed and that the bots can directly read and write files in that folder. Back up existing notes before moving them.

Setup steps: 1) Create a folder for each bot, a status page for its current state, and an append-only log file. 2) Create a shared inbox folder for task handoffs and a note template for handoffs. 3) Create a folder where each decision is recorded as one note. 4) In one rules file for all bots, specify write scopes, file-naming rules, and a prohibition on editing other bots' folders.

Deliverables: folder structure, rules file, and instructions for each bot. First, have two bots hand off one task through the inbox and verify that the log files are not overwritten.
