An Agent That Builds a Game, Including Art and Music

The author set only the direction and plan, while Claude Code handled the game code, sprite art, and music.

How it works

  1. The author built a game almost entirely with Claude Code.
  2. The author said that art direction and planning were the only parts handled personally; Claude Code did the rest, including sprite art and music composition.

Results

The finished game was shared through a link. Specific figures such as development time or cost were not disclosed.

Notes

The post does not include the request given to Claude Code or explain how the art and music were made, such as whether they were created in code or through other tools.

Example prompt · Claude Code

Build a small browser game, handling everything from planning to art and music. I will set only the direction and plan.

Inputs: game genre and rules [e.g., single-screen puzzle, side-scrolling platformer], mood and art style [e.g., 16-bit pixel art, hand-drawn look], play time [e.g., 3 minutes per round], and runtime environment [browser, desktop]. First decide whether to create the art and music directly in code or use external generation tools. If external tools are needed, check their costs and terms of use and explain them.

Process: 1) Summarize the rules and screen layout on one page and obtain my confirmation. 2) Build a minimal version with controls and scoring. 3) Create character and background sprites in a consistent style. 4) Add background music and sound effects. Show the running game at each stage. If I change the direction, restart from the relevant stage.

Deliverables: a playable game and its source, plus a list of art and music files and their sources. Start with just one stage and verify that it can be played from beginning to end without getting stuck and that the sound works properly.
