Automation That Creates Content Ideas from Rising Search Terms

When given a topic, it finds rising queries in Google Trends and organizes titles, opening lines, angles, and facts to verify.

How it works

  1. The creator believed most AI-generated content ideas were guesses, so they built an n8n workflow that checks search trends first.
  2. When given a topic such as home espresso, it selects queries to check in Google Trends and filters out useless terms among the rising searches.
  3. For each idea, it supplies a title, opening line, angle, reason for the rise, and facts to check, then returns the results as a form response, a weekly Google Sheet, or a CSV for multiple topics.

Results

When the creator actually ran it for “AI for product managers,” it reportedly generated ideas such as the MCP standard, risk matrices for financial AI agents, and LangSmith alternatives. The creator explained that every idea came from a search currently trending upward.

Notes

A Gemini API key is required, and the free tier is reportedly sufficient. The post does not say whether articles created from these ideas actually gained views. The workflow file is available on the creator’s GitHub.

Example prompt · n8n

Build an n8n automation that finds keywords whose searches are currently increasing within my topic and turns them into content ideas.

Inputs: content topic [for example: home café, personal finance for office workers], target region and language [country, language], delivery method [form, weekly Google Sheet, CSV containing multiple topics], model to use [for example: Gemini]. First, check whether there is a reliable way to retrieve rising Google Trends searches in my environment, and if it relies on an unofficial method, determine what happens when that method is blocked.

Implementation steps: 1) Choose several search queries for the topic. 2) Retrieve related rising queries for each one. 3) Filter out queries unrelated to the topic or consisting only of brand names. 4) For each remaining query, write a title, opening line, angle, reason it is rising, and facts to verify before publication. If the trends data is empty, do not invent ideas; state that no data is available.

Deliverables: workflow file, list of configuration values, and one example output. First run it with one topic and confirm that every idea includes the rising query that supports it.
